Do we live our lives in a predetermined story that we are just all playing out or do we have the power to change the outcome of our lives? This is such a tricky topic to have an opinion over but I would have to say that I do believe in fate. Why do I believe in fate? I believe in fate because I believe that God is the highest power and he has already chosen for us what we should make of ourselves in this life time. But all religious beliefs aside, I believe in fate just because of the comfort I get out of thinking that the situation isn't so bad because everything happens for a reason. Soon fate will come around and make this negative into a positive. Someone may argue saying that people have the power to make their own decisions in life. Someone who is born into poverty can choose on their own to get good grades and to get a good job to get out of poverty. I would argue right back saying that maybe their fate was chosen so that they would get themselves out of poverty. It was already determined that the individual would choose to make a better life for themselves. Another point is the evil people in the world such as the drunk driver who hits a minivan and kills a mother and her kids. This is where it gets complicated because it is not fair for one persons poor choice to take the lives of innocent people. Here’s the kicker though: what if that drunk driver changed his life around because of the accident and decided to start an organization against drunk driving and by doing so saving 1,000's of lives? As humans, the best way we are taught is by learning from our mistakes. So maybe every negative thing in the world brings in two positive things. Our destinies, whether they have a positive or negative outcome, will somehow have a positive effect on the world in the end because that is what has been determined for us. That is what fate is all about.
